Oh, July, don’t think your sweltering temperatures are going to have us lookin’ like a hot mess. We’re ready for you — armed with waterproof mascara and packing bathing suits for a quick after-work dip in the pool.
Local weather forecasts will likely fluctuate between “hot,” “very hot” and “so hot, chickens are laying hard-boiled eggs.” Your fashion forecast? It’s got a lot more variety.
Here are some trends to try out this July:
Jumpsuits: You’re getting sleep, very sleepy. And we’re hypnotizing you to erase all thoughts you have of Tom Cruse in Top Gun. Jumpsuits are trending this summer. They are equal parts effortless and chic. Need proof? Head on over to Gal meets Glam, a San Francisco blogger with a penchant for jumpsuits who shows us how it’s done. And, check out this article in Glamour that fills us in on formal jumpsuits and their resurgence on the red carpet.
Something a lil’ patriotic: Cue Lee Greenwood’s Proud to be an American. On the Fourth, you’ll definitely want a lil’ red, white and blue number. Check out Modcloth to look like a pin-up patriot. We’re loving the vintage-inspired red polka dot bathing suits with a plus-sized option and the car cruise boogie sunglasses.
Get a ‘bird’s eye view’: We spotted spring and summer fashion week models wearing peacock-inspired eye shadow shades. Get the look with eye shadow palettes of golds and bronze, mixed with blues, greens and purples. To get the look, use NYC New York Color’s HD Trio eye shadow in “West Vintage.” It’s just $2.99 and contains pale and dark green shades and a dramatic purple. Add a highlight with the golden shade found in “Streets Paved in Gold” HD Trio eye shadow palette. Apply the lightest shadow from the corner of the eye to about one third way across the lid. Sweep the middle shade down the center of the lid and apply the deepest shadow to the last third of the lid, and blend it to the outer corner. (Get coupons to drugstore.com)
Go nude: July 13 is national nudist day. Yup, it started in the 1970s, which is no surprise. So if you’re not planning on going skinny dipping or to a nudist beach, celebrate the day with some modesty and some buff tones. The minimalist look is trending this summer and we love nude colors paired with jewel tones. We’re especially fond of this Adrianna Papell dress from Nordstrom with soutache flowers giving it an interesting texture — complete with a V-neckline and flared skirt.
