Like many of you, we love scoring a great deal – especially on travel. But with so many options in hotels, flights and destinations, it’s hard to know where you can find the best savings. All-inclusive hotels and resorts can be a great way to stay on budget and find great savings when booking your trip.

We know what you’re thinking – all-inclusive? Won’t we be sick of the food and have to deal with watered-down drinks all week? But fear not: Booking an all-inclusive trip just may be the best decision you can make when it comes to travel – and the cheapest.

Here are some insider tips about the advantages of staying at an all-inclusive resort from Expedia Viewfinder Travel Blog author and Hip Travel Mama blogger Anne Taylor Hartzell:

What are the benefits of booking an all-inclusive trip?

All-inclusive trips are a great way to ensure you stick to your vacation budget. When setting a budget for a trip, once you’ve booked your airfare and hotel, you can easily underestimate how much it costs to eat and do activities in a destination. All-inclusive take the guesswork out of elusive “extras” that can send you over your spending limit.

What are some of the myths about all-inclusive trips?

One of the biggest misconceptions about all-inclusives is that the food is terrible. While some all-inclusive resorts offer less than desirable buffet-style cuisine, many all-inclusive resorts now are rolling out the red carpet to ensure that dining experiences are top-notch and what you’d expect in a resort vacation and a four or five star hotel.

What tips do you have for people planning their first all-inclusive vacation?

My first tip is to do your homework. Ask for recommendations from friends, check with experts on what all-inclusive resorts they love and have been recognized for their all-inclusive excellence.

Remember that one size doesn’t fit all for every type of all-inclusive trip. For example, if you are traveling as a family, make sure you to check to make sure the all-inclusive resort is kid-friendly and offers age-appropriate kids programs. If you are traveling as a couple and don’t want to be disturbed by little ones running around, ensure the all-inclusive resort is adults-only before you book.

What destinations stand out as good all-inclusive destinations and why?

Mexico is fabulous for all-inclusive resorts. Some of our favorite Mexico destinations that offer an abundance of all-inclusive resorts include Los Cabos and Riviera Maya. The Caribbean also offers great all-inclusives for every budget and travel style, whether you are a family, honeymooners or active adventure seekers.

What are your tips for travelers who want to escape their hotel as part of an all-inclusive vacation?

Staying at an all-inclusive keeps things simple and easy, but don’t forget to get out and explore the local destination to experience local food, people and culture. Ask hotel staff where they eat and consider venturing off property to splurge on an authentic local meal or two outside of the resort. Take a hike, a drive or spend the day getting out and exploring the town around the resort to help you enjoy and appreciate all your vacation destination has to offer!
