Aiming for beach-ready bodies by spring

January 8th, 2013

By Travis Henry

Somehow, I thought I was in OK shape.

I work out. I like to hike and ski. All in all, I’m a pretty active guy.

So when Beachbody challenged employees to get fit in 60 days with the Les Mills Combat workout, I wasn’t concerned.

That is, until I had to pose for the shirtless “before” pictures and  see the reality for myself. Was that really my gut? Had I splurged that much over the holidays? Who is that old out-of-shape guy? Trust me, the pictures weren’t pretty.

Perhaps this challenge came at exactly the right time for me.

Starting this week, 35 employees began “working out like a warrior” with the Les Mills Combat program that combines martial arts and boxing moves for an intense cardiovascular workout.

Beachbody claims you can burn up to 1,000 calories per hour with the program, something I desperately need. The program includes a five-day-a-week option or a six-day schedule, which I am opting to do.

According to the scale and measuring tape here at, I checked in at 180 lbs., with a 36-inch waist at the beginning of this challenge. My biggest problem: I am skinny everywhere except the middle, where I have a stubborn beer belly I need to discard.

For now, I’ll spare readers the pain of having to view my shirtless “before” pictures that were required for the program.  Over the next two months I’ll update you on our progress. Until then, why not join us and make some body improvements yourself?

Check out our Beachbody Coupons and Promo Codes page and buy the Les Mills Combat Workout.  Leave comments below on your progress. If we get some good participants, we may feature them in future articles.

Time to burn some calories!
