The internet is helping those last-minutes shoppers on Thursday. It’s the second annual “Free Shipping Day.” More than 700 stores are offering free shipping Dec. 17.

They guarantee your purchase will get to its destination by Christmas Eve.

Denver-based shopathome.com is behind the promotion. The goal is to get people back to the home shopping sites later in the year.

Braunstein said the incentives like free shipping are not only a huge benefit to customers, but have exponentionally spawned a surge in online sales.

Some retailers are offering cash rebates for shopping on Thursday. The number of retailers taking part in the free shipping has more than tripled since last year.
